In deeds and gestures

Not only do we rely on nature and the state of connectedness for our survival, but also as a means to flourish. The food we savour, the sanctuaries we build for ourselves, and the relationships we forge; all seeds that allow us to thrive. In Deeds and Gestures points to the act of giving and receiving; a two way type of love. It’s about the mutual connection that exists between human beings and with nature.

This exhibition hints at the fleetingness and fragility of life, and how easily its symbolic nature can be shifted off balance if the act of nurturing is forgotten. It warns us that reaching and maintaining this harmonious balance of giving and receiving is wholeheartedly dependent on everything we do as human beings. We must, therefore, consciously nurture these connections amongst each other and with nature in order for life on both sides to prosper; a positive karma, you could say.

In his practice, Ibrahim gives humans, plants and wildlife equal weight, using vibrant colours and soft brushstrokes to render the elements harmoniously. This new body of work inspires us to take steps to conserve and nourish all that surrounds us, empowering fauna and flora to bear fruit.
